I don’t know about you, but I was more than happy to have my taxpayer dollars spent on giving the hardest working man in America (and possibly the world), a night on the town! The big brouhaha over the money spent was ridiculous, and frankly, disrespectful. I suppose the pundits would have preferred to see our President and First Lady hop on the city bus, or take the train into New York, or better yet – stick up a thumb and hitch a ride. That said, I am so inspired by the love that emanates from this couple. Even photographed from the back, their soul-mate connection is palpable; a Marvin Gaye soundtrack should follow them wherever they go. It’s such a healthy thing for us to behold on an international stage: a MARRIED couple with mutual respect, admiration and desire for each other. Once again, Obama leads by example. He understands that “world peace” begins with peace in our own individual homes. We all know how a good Date Night ends. The world could use more of that medicine right now, wouldn’t you agree? So, I say Amen to Date Night. Let’s institute them in households across the country. There’s no excuse not to. If the leader of the free world– with all he has on his plate– can make the time to take his baby out for a night on the town, women don’t want to hear anything from their husbands about how tired or busy they are. Barack has raised the bar. Married men of America how will you respond?

I say kudos to you for bringing this topic to light! The president and first lady show America, and the world, that it is healthy and normal for a couple to be loving and caring towards one another. I respect the president even more now, especially since he showed that he can fit his wife into his busy schedule.

Love the blog…and thanks for posting your thoughts on this topic. I was talking with a few friends about it last week and we agreed about how refreshing it is to have a president who clearly has great love and affection for his wife and family. I just love the way the look at each other, and the body language between them says a lot. When I think about how much Monicapalooza cost the tax payers, I say President Obama can take his wife on as many date nights as they can manage.
Oh I am so glad you brought this up! I could not believe my eyes when I read that story, what with so much meanness in the world it is good to see the humanity and love in the White House. I think it’s healthy they go out and do things. Keeps them grounded no matter what the “talking heads” have to say. I don’t care how much it cost the tax payers it just means we have a more balanced President and First Lady.
How refreshing it was to see the Mr. and Mrs. Obama out and doing the normal things that people do every day. Well some do. My husband works nights. He came in this morning woke me up and dragged me off for breakfast. Thanks for just letting me sound off.
People were all up in arms about our President taking his wife, the First Lady out on a date…a why?
They deserve a night out like any other couple. Not to mention, this is a better way to spend tax dollars than how our government & past presidents have wasted it before.

I was wondering myself where he got the idea. In my church, husbands and wives across the world are ENCOURAGED to have a date night, at least once a month, for the very reasons you stated.
Love starts at home. I live alone,these days, but I used to dance with my dogs, regularly!!!!
Never be too busy to share some quality time with your husband/wife.I don’t care if you’ve been married 6 months or 60 years. This is an important time to get to know one another much better. The more you are together, the more you are intuned with each others, wants, needs, and desires. You know about their hurts, pains, and disappointments. You also know about what they love, dislike and care for. Hats off to The Obamas. That’s right, President Obama, keep doing what you did before you became our president. Treat your wife like the Queen she is. I like these topics ms. Wayans. Keep up the great work!!
I totally agree. My Honey took me to a Chuck Mangione concert last week and then we spent the night in a hotel. I loved it.

I actually liked what Brad Pitt said a few months ago (about gay marriage, but it applies universally): “How many times do you think real love comes to someone in a lifetime? If you’re lucky, maybe two or three.” Treat as a treasure.
